The TAJA Coalition is launching the TGNC Housing Subsidy Taskforce. Trans people are 18 times more likely to be homeless and face many barriers and issues that impede access to existing public housing programs. With Covid-19, these barriers are heightened and add another adverse effect to the Trans and GNC community. Even more community members are at risk of being evicted and losing their housing during this pandemic. The TAJA Coalition has assembled a Taskforce of community leaders who will lend their expertise to combat these issues.
The TGNC Taskforce partners with our community committees to ensure continuous accountability and inclusion. The TGNC Taskforce assists in developing strategic plans to make existing housing programs safe and inclusive for Trans and Gender Non-Conforming community members. The recommendations from the Taskforce will increase accessibility for the TGI and GNC community.
The purpose of the TGNC Taskforce is to:
- Provide surveillance and monitoring: Produce an updated report that outlines service gaps to safe and affordable housing for the Trans and Gender Non-Conforming community
- Uphold accountability to ensure what is written is what is being done
- Facilitate housing sensitivity training to increase the community’s comfortability within housing
- Provide technical assistance to housing programs that serve the TGNC community. The Taskforce members meet once monthly, and subsequent committees may meet monthly if needed. The TAJA Coalition and the TGNC Taskforce are committed to making housing programs safe and equitable for the TGI and GNC community.
